BBWR FAQs
At Baltimore Bicycle Works Racing (BBWR), we are building a community of bike riders of all kinds from road to gravel to cyclocross, mountain biking, and everything in between. While many of us race, it’s not a requirement of the team. Our only membership requirement is volunteering at a local biking event each year.
Here are answers to a few of the most frequently asked questions:
What are the benefits of joining the team?
As a member you’ll have the benefit of:
A supportive, encouraging, and fun community of people who ride bikes.
The team email listserv, where teammates post ride invitations, and share routes and stories. There are lots of impromptu rides not officially listed on our website or social media that you only have access to through the Listserv.
Discount! 10% off most parts and service at our title sponsor, Baltimore Bicycle Works two convenient locations, as well as discounts at our other sponsors - 10% at Peabody Heights Brewery, 15% at Dear Globe, and 15% Mt. Royal Soaps ( some exclusions apply).
Race rewards! Get rewarded for racing or leading team rides – after a certain number of races or led rides repping BBWR, you get a gift card to BBW!
Access to purchase our swanky team kit.
Who can join and what are the requirements of being a team member?
Anyone (18+ years old) is welcome to join the team!
The only requirement is to volunteer at one of the team’s bike races each year (Falkorburg Cross in the Fall).
Do I need to race bikes to join the team?
No, you do not have to race bikes to join BBWR – lots of our team members are just excited to ride bikes with their teammates.
However, if you are interested in racing at all, you will find BBWR a supportive community of knowledgeable, encouraging, and enthusiastic teammates who will help you on your way.
All rides posted on this website are open for anyone to join (i.e. Monday night recovery ride, Wednesday W/T/F ride, and Thursday Bumpy Belt Loop ride) [exception: W/T/F open to women, trans, femme, and non-binary folks only].
See each page for more details, and please sign the waiver the first time you come.
Note - some of the rides are “drop rides” and some are “no-drop.”
What about BBWR group rides, can anyone join?
The best way is to follow us on Instagram @baltimorebicyleworksracing. We post updates on ride days to ensure everyone knows if the ride is ON or if it’s canceled (e.g. due to weather).
How should I keep up with BBWR’s goings-on?
All kinds! Our teammates ride and race road, gravel, mountain, and even virtual Zwift racing - many of us do more than one and some of us primarily use bikes for transportation and exercise.
What kind of biking do BBWR teammates do?
As of 2023, annual dues are $55 – this renews automatically 12 months after you first join. Keep in mind, you get a discount off at BBW and our other sponsors so you can make some (maybe all!) of this back.
